My career has been shaped by an early academic grounding in literature and political science, combined with a long-standing interest in how complex systems operate. This perspective has influenced how I view organisations: as adaptive systems where structure, culture, and human dynamics are deeply interconnected. Throughout my career I’ve learned that clarity, disciplined governance, and the quality of human engagement are the foundations of effective execution.
I have spent my career inside large, technical, and highly regulated organisations across resources, telecommunications, and financial services. Much of my work has involved navigating complexity: translating technical, operational, and regulatory challenges into practical strategies that enable performance at scale. Through roles spanning 180 countries and workforces of more than 100,000, I’ve seen that scale matters far less than alignment, accountability, and leadership capability.
My leadership philosophy is straightforward: people strategy is business strategy. When organisations treat it as peripheral, performance suffers; when they integrate it, meaningful change becomes possible. I bring a forensic approach to diagnosing issues, a willingness to challenge assumptions, and a disciplined curiosity that ensures the right questions sharpen decision-making. This mindset has guided my work across strategic transformation, governance, risk, executive succession, remuneration, digital and workforce strategy, M&A, crisis management, and inclusion and diversity.
Across my executive roles, I have worked alongside Chairs and CEOs as a strategic adviser through leadership transitions, organisational redesign and periods of significant operational and reputational risk. I am known for bringing clarity when decisions are complex, for identifying patterns in ambiguity and for stepping towards the issues that matter when circumstances are high-stakes. These experiences have shaped a governance approach grounded in judgement, transparency and disciplined risk oversight.
My work has taken me across Asia, Europe, the Americas and the UK for extended periods, giving me deep experience across different regulatory, cultural and stakeholder environments. This global exposure has strengthened my ability to lead diverse teams, manage multi-jurisdictional risk and support boards navigating complex external landscapes.
I also hold a long-standing view that organisations have responsibilities to the communities around them, a perspective strengthened by seven years as a Director of the BHP Foundation. This has informed the causes I choose to support, particularly in education equity and the arts.
